Matt Smiley’s Forever was composed in a cabin in Peterborough, New Hampshire, as part of a residency at MacDowell. This is Smiley’s first album release for large ensemble, featuring musicians from all over the United States. The octet music contains pieces written with traditional notation, open improvisation, graphic/text scores, and conducted game pieces, inspired by Julius Hemphill, Ornette Coleman, and Meredith Monk.
