The Music:
The music on this disc is a sonic representation of scientific data related to climate change across our planet. Several sections consist of musical interpretations of historic CO2 levels in our atmosphere. Others represent Antarctic ice mass over time or rainfall patterns across the United States. These field recordings have been edited down and arranged into a four-part orchestra suite by Bob Brown of Ships In Studios, based in Billings, Montana. This collaboration has been a time to reflect on universal themes of change, exploring both large scale geologic processes and today's current political and societal situations. All proceeds of the sales of this recording will be donated to climate change research.
The Orchestra:
The Billings Fringe Orchestra is a constantly evolving group of improvising musicians based across Montana. Our mission is to cross musical boundaries by bringing together players of all ages, skills, and genres to perform large-scale group improvisations as well as original compositions. The product of putting people from all walks of life together into a new (and sometimes uncomfortable) musical situation is an incredible ensemble playing new music which reaches an exciting space between total chaos and incredible beauty.
